If you visit your dentist regularly to get your teeth whitened, you’re all good. You’re covered. But if you’re someone who’s trying out different products out there, this post might be something of an interest.

But let’s get into the basics first. How does teeth whitening work?

Enamel, the outermost layer of your teeth, is mostly composed of inorganic mineral called hydroxyapatite (96%). When you apply whitening solutions (hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide) on the surface of teeth, they start to penetrate inside and oxidizes/breaks down organic stain molecules and makes your teeth look whiter. But by doing so, you demineralize surface of enamel and this could lead to post-op sensitivity.

How do you minimize post-op sensitivity?

By using remineralizing products after teeth whitening, they not only remineralize your enamel but also can improve post-op sensitivity as well. Glow, natural translucency, smoothness would be other added benefits to using remineralizing agents.

Products that I would recommend

There are tons of different brands and products out there and one can easily get lost. For whitening itself, three different modes of use you can try: Trays, strips and pen. Here are my curated lists.

Whitening Trays

Whitening Strips

Whitening Pen

Now, combine with the remineralizing product to maximize your teeth whitening experience. Many remineralizing pastes that we have in dental offices are prescription based. But this one from GC is available without need for prescription.
